So I’ve been doing quite a bit of research lately on Male Grooming products since I’ve been working around a lot of handsome gentlemen on the shows I’ve been working on POWER on the Starz Network and Billions on the Showtime Network. So many men to work around and I not know some of the latest grooming products available on the market? Who me? OH NO I’VE GOT TO CHANGE THAT QUICKLY!!! So in my research I found out just how booming the Men’s Grooming industry is really booming! Almost as much as the market for women’s beauty products.
HALLELUJIAH gone are the days of men just using one bar of soap head to toe for everything! Shheeesh! I mean a bar of soap as shampoo too?? C’mon fellas!! But now in this generation the men are coming through with dare I say it envyable grooming products…I’m soooo impressed! The latest trend for men is beards in all shapes, colors and sizes. But most of all GROOMED BEARDS. Some looks are reminiscent of the 1700’s-1800’s where men really payed attention to their facial hair and styled them with precision and extreme care.
While I was researching mens grooming I found this brand called BEVEL Shaving Systems. Well all the information I’d read online about the brand boasted of new innovation in the blades the way the system is designed etc, etc. I just so happened to be listening to my iPad playlist (which is pretty amazing and diverse) I heard a song with Mary J. Blige featuring the talented Rapper NAS. I remember working with Mary J. and NAS on the video. I was her Makeup Artist and his Groomer. He was such a gentleman and very precise about the way he wanted to be presented…I recall he had his barber with him just in case! Now I’m continuing this research and I see this video on YouTube featuring NAS!! OMG what a coincidence!! After seeing this clip I was already sold!!!!
Now I know I needed to better prepared with my Men’s Grooming Pro Kit. I have traditionally used Andis and Wahl as my go to clippers and electric shaver. I also keep handled disposable razors and straight razors in my kit as well. But when you have a private client you want to be sure you have specialty items for them and this brand seemed to be the answer. So, I contacted the company and I just received the BEVEL Shaving System gift box and I am floored!!!!
Goodness gracious the presentation is superb I almost felt like I was getting a new iPhone or something! You get a handsomely crafted package and instruction booklet. The frosted chrome dual side open head (so you can shave on both sides of the razor and not just the one side) and handle razor are just the perfect weight. The handle twists off and the head separates so you can change the blades when they get dull. I noticed that the scent was light and relatively mild which is great so it would not clash with any fragrance your client would be wearing or create too much burning from the alcohol in heavily scents items.
In the actual kit you have the star of the show the razor, a boars hair shaving brush, shaving cream, a restoring balm and priming oil. I think that having the priming oil is really an essential in and shaving routine because it preps the skin and you really don’t want to shave on simply dry skin. Doing that can cause nicks and cuts. Dry skin just in general is a no-no! The skin has to be treated at all times. Gentlemen should have clear smooth skin as part of their best features.
One thing I can tell you as a warning regarding your shaving brush, always clean and shampoo it to keep it clean and do not let the water go down into the barrel of the brush as this can loosen the glue holding the bristles together. Makeup brushes are handled in the same way while cheating and drying. You always want your brush to air dry so keep it on a dry towel to dry so it does not collect bacteria and mildew witch can be harmful to the skin.
Okay so, I had a few questions about the brand and how it serves its clients, groomers and barbers alike. So I had the opportunity to speak with the Walker Company’s PR company (really charming pleasant and helpful) and they were so helpful in bringing clarity. Now if you order the system online it is presented as a subscription system when you pay monthly for replenishing the items. And now the items are soled separately at selected Target stores across the country in the US.
Q: Replenishment Bundle? What’s in the Replenishment Bundle?
A: Your first Bevel Shipment includes a complimentary Bevel Razor and Bevel Badger Brush ($80 value) plus 3-month supply of Bevel Priming Oil, Bevel Shave Cream, Bevel Restoring Balm and 60 Bevel Blades. Q: So $29.95 per month you would get a new Bevel Shaving System Starter Bundle each month you pay $29.95?
A: The Bevel Kits are shipped every 3 months, meaning the products you receive should last for 90 days. In total the Bevel Subscription is $89.85, but given it lasts 3 months, this totals $29.95 per month (and you are charged $29.95 a month).
Q: Do you have a Pro Artists discount set up in case Artists and Barbers want to buy in bulk quantities?
A: Not currently, I will keep you posted when this changes.
Q: Will you be presenting theBevel System at any trade shows this year?
A: Walker & Company recently attended Barbercon in NYC, but are not currently scheduled to present at any upcoming trade shows. I’ll keep you posted if this changes.
I can’t wait to try the trimmers which will be available in the Spring of 2016. To my understanding it will serve as a trimmer and work with a cord and cordless (4 hours without having to recharge) for portability (perfect for quick clean ups on set! I usually use Wahl The Peanut). So stay tuned for that review later in part 2. So far I am pleased with this brand and I’m truly excited to share it with all my Pro’s and enthusiasts. Also ladies this makes a great gift for the men in your life! I give this brand 5 stars!
